What to Expect at Your First Pilates Session
Starting something new is easier when you know what will happen. Your first session is a chance to discuss your goals, become familiar with the studio, and learn a few foundational movements without pressure.

Before you arrive
Wear comfortable clothing that lets you move freely. For a mat class, socks or bare feet are appropriate; the studio supplies mats and small props. New mat students should contact Mariela before registering.
The initial conversation
For a private session, Mariela will ask about your movement goals, prior exercise experience, and relevant limitations. Share any exercise guidance or restrictions you have received from your licensed healthcare provider.
During the session
Movements are introduced step by step, with attention to breathing, alignment, and control. Exercises can be adjusted based on your comfort and current ability. You are encouraged to ask questions and communicate how you feel.
After the session
Mariela can recommend a private, express, or small-group format based on your goals and experience. Progress comes from consistent, appropriately paced practice—not from forcing a movement.
